This qualification is designed for individuals who want to start a career as a painter and decorator within the construction sector. Learners will develop and practise the essential skills needed for employment or career progression in painting and decorating.

The course covers the fundamental practical and theoretical aspects of the trade, including:

Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
Preparing surfaces for decoration

Course content

Learners must complete all mandatory units:

What do I need?

A grade 2 in both Maths and English.

How will I be assessed?

Written multiple-choice tests covering underpinning knowledge in each unit.

Practical assignments demonstrating performance outcomes, such as erecting and dismantling access equipment, preparing and decorating surfaces, applying paint and wallpaper, and producing decorative finishes.

Where can it take me?

Successful completion results in the City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating (6707-13).

This qualification is recognised throughout the construction industry and provides a solid foundation for further training or employment in the painting and decorating sector.

City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.

Employment as a Trainee Painter and Decorator, Apprentice Decorator, or other entry-level construction roles.
