This qualification is designed for learners who want to work as electricians in the building services engineering sector. It provides the knowledge and practical skills needed for employment and career progression, but does not make learners fully qualified electricians. The course covers:

Health and safety in building services engineering
Principles of electrical science
Electrical installation technology
Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
Communication in the building services engineering industry

Course content

Learners will complete all five mandatory units:

Health and safety in building services engineering
Principles of electrical science
Electrical installations technology
Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering

What do I need?

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4. A GCSE Physics at Grade 4 or Electrical level 1 is also desirable.

How will I be assessed?

Written multiple-choice tests (unit tests range from 40–90 minutes)
Practical assignments in areas such as wiring installation, safe isolation, testing, and communication

Where can it take me?

Learners can progress into employment as an improver/electrician’s mate or advance to further qualifications.
