Philosophy offers a fascinating and thought-provoking exploration of some of life’s biggest questions. Students will develop critical thinking, analytical and evaluative skills by examining philosophical ideas and arguments that have shaped human understanding for centuries.
During this course, you will explore a range of fundamental philosophical issues. Does God exist? Can we trust our senses? What makes an action morally right or wrong? Do humans possess free will? You will study influential philosophers and key philosophical arguments while developing the ability to construct, analyse and evaluate complex ideas. The course encourages curiosity, discussion and debate, helping you to become a confident and independent thinker.
You will need GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s, including a grade 6 in English Language and a grade 6 in a Humanities subject. Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have Grade 4.
Philosophy at Halesowen College is a linear qualification. Students will complete mock examinations throughout the two years of study and will sit their external A Level examinations at the end of the second year. Assessment is through written examinations that test knowledge, understanding, analysis and evaluation of philosophical concepts and arguments.
